Google | Create an Android Developer Account - Prenly

Publishing an Android app on Google Play prerequisities:

  • DUNS number
  • Google account
  • A valid payment method

DUNS number

Google will require the account owner of the developer account to verify their organisation, which Google utilise Dun & Bradstreet's DUNS number, as one of the developer account creation steps.

If you do not know your organisation's DUNS number, you will have to contact Dun & Bradstreet or visit dunsnumberlookup.dnb.com.

Google Account

To create the Play Console developer account, you will have to select the developer account owner's Google account.

Once selected, the account owner cannot be changed. Decide which email address you would like to act as the account owner.

You can create a Google Account by creating an account from your current email address, creating a new Gmail account, or creating one from a Google Workspace.
Please note that Google Workspace is a subscription-service-based solution with a monthly charge.
Note, you will not require a Google Account via Google Workspace to create and set up a Google Play Console developer account.

Tip. Enter a general email or a shared email address that several people at your organisation have access to in case of illness, vacations, or a change of position.

Creating a Google account can be done by either...:

  1. ...via Play Console account creation: https://play.google.com/apps/publish/signup/
  2. ...via directly creating a Google Account at https://accounts.google.com/

1. Select Create account.

2. Select For my personal use (selecting "For work or my business" will create a Google Workspace account).

3. Set the name of the Google account by setting a first name and, optionally, a surname. Note. At a later step, you will have to verify that the account owner is a physical person, which is done by an ID verification step.

4. Set your month-of-day, and, optionally, gender from the drop-down.

5. Set your current email address, or select "Don't have an email address or phone number?" to create a new Gmail Google Account.

6. Verify the email address. Google will send a specific code to the given email address, which you will have to provide back to complete the account creation.

7. Set a password and activate two-factor authentication.

Create a Play Console developer account

By default, Google's services will think you will create the developer account for the currently signed-in user. Make sure you are on the correct account, or select Switch accounts to select the correct account owner.

When creating the developer account, make sure you select that the account type is organisation. If you create a personal account, then your information will be listed on the developer account's store page. You cannot change the account type after the account creation.

Tip. You can create the developer account in the so-called incognito mode in your web browser of choice to prevent Google from assuming your Google Account.

Tip. When selecting a name for the developer account, select one suitable for you. The name will be exposed on your developer account's store page. It is recommended that you use your organisation's name.

Step 1. Start the process of creating your new developer account at https://play.google.com/apps/publish/signup/ using the account owner's Google account.

Step 2. Accept Google's distribution agreement.

Step 3. Google will charge a one-time fee of $25. Google will accept multiple payment options, select the one most suitable for you and pay the registration fee.

Step 4. Select the organisation type, stating your account is an Organisation.

Step 5. Verify the developer account identity by providing the Dun & Bradstreet DUNS number, verify that the account owner is a human (one-time registration with ID information), and verify the organisation's homepage.

Step 6. Invite Prenly.

  • Log in to your Play Console account
  • Click on "Users and permissions" in the left-hand menu
  • Select "Invite new users"
  • Enter the email address dev@prenly.com, omitting the expiry date
  • In the Permissions section, select Account permissions, select Admin
  • Select Invite user to invite Prenly

Tip. If the "Invite user" button is grey, it means you have missed a step.

After the developer account creation

Once you have created your new Android developer account (the Play Console account), we strongly recommend you...

  • print the Google payment confirmation e-mail
The email contains vital information that is needed if you would ever have to move the app: the credit card used, the date of purchase, the account owner's e-mail, and, most essential, the transaction ID. Google will require the transaction ID if the app ever has to be transferred to another developer account.
